Friday April 24th, from 3m until Monday 27th
Chapel House, Penzance
Newlyn Fermentary is once again collaborating with River Cottage’s Rachel de Thample and Chapel House. This time to bring you a one off and very special three night wellness experience which will nurture you inside and out. Stay at one of Penzance's most stylish town houses where the Fermentary team will be on site for the full stay delivering two bespoke learning experiences and preparing seven mindful, ferment inspired meals, alongside Rachel de Thample.
Chapel House is on the 50 Best Boutique Hotels list, yet the stylish Grade II-listed Georgian property feels more like a private home than a hotel, with art-filled interiors, cosy walled gardens and a small friendly team. Overlooking the bay, the walled garden is host to a private sauna, hot tub and cold plunge, which you can enjoy unlimited access to for the duration of the retreat.
During the long weekend, as well as enjoying everything the house has to offer, you will also come away with ideas and inspiration, learning to make an array of health giving ferments, including sauerkraut, kimchi, water kefir, kombucha and kvass. There will be recipes and inspiration on how to incorporate these foods into delicious and easy to prepare meals.
The learning and culinary experiences will be complimented by sunrise swims, sauna, wild walks and supplementary treatments, which can be woven throughout the weekend to make this a truly indulgent and nurturing weekend.
What to expect.
Guest are invited to arrive from 3pm on Friday 24th April. The sauna will be on. A welcome drink and light meal will be served from 6pm, at which you can meet your hosts who will introduce the next few days of fermentation and wellness.
Saturday meets you with a sunrise swim, followed by sauna and late breakfast to allow for a degree of (optional) intermittent fasting. Following breakfast there will be a two hour workshop, light lunch and in the evening a four course tasting menu. (all fermented!).
Sunday will follow a similar pattern culminating in a sharing feast at the end of the last full day.
Both days have allowed generous afternoon slots for self care; Be it in solitude, siesta, sauna or enjoying a supplementary guided wild walk with local medicinal forager, or an in house holistic wellbeing treatment.
All meals are included and will be ferment inspired, ensuring that during your stay you will have at least three ferments per day, as well as 30 diverse plant types (often in one meal).
